Vallevägen
Locations
Info

Here in the Valle area we are not modest – the area is marketed as “Vallevägen - the world's most beautiful road”. Roughly 20 small business owners have joined forces to highlight the area's assets and resources. This involves both artists, producers, traders and B&B’s. The nature in the area is characterized by the kame landscape with its rolling hills. This type of landscape is considered unique in the world - it was formed when the inland ice retreated. There are over 60 km of hiking trails, and the area is known for all the tens of thousands cherry trees that blossom here during May.

Nature area Sotaliden and Stolan

At Stora and Lilla Stolan the drainage of the Baltic Ice Lake took place around 10,000 years ago. Those with an interest in geology can study purged sandstone outcrops and a chute exposed due to erosion. You can also see the remains of sandstone, alum shale and limestone extraction. At Stolan there are mining adits in the alum shale and old limestone quarries. A water filled sandstone quarry farther down the slope is today used as a fishing lake.

At Sotaliden you have a fine panorama towards Klyftamon and Kinnekulle. Here you see moist meadowland and pastures with rich flora. In Stolan a cultural itinerary takes you past the old mines, and at Sotaliden you can join the Billingeleden Trail. There is a car park along Timmersdalavägen.
