In the area around Tidan you find lake Östen, which is a typical floodplain lake, nutricious and shallow. It is one of the most valuable bird lakes in the country, and a very important link in the chain of resting places for migratory birds. The beautiful landscape around the lake bears evidence from thousands of years of human activity, and here you can also find several ancient monuments and cultural sights. Lake Östen, together with the rivers Tidan and Ösan, has connected large parts of north and east Skaraborg. A lot of the findings that have been made in the area indicates a very rich district. On your visit here, do not miss the ancient monuments Kung Ranes hög and Askeberga ship cumulus, or the cultural reserve Vallby Sörgården.
At Logården, north of Odensåker church, there is a rich cultural landscape consisting of fields and pastures, with a number of clearance cairns and old stone walls. In the slope down towards Lake Östen's old water meadows you can see traces of the former shorelines of the lake.
Logården is an 89 ha nature reserve situated north of Odensåker church close to Lake Östen. The reserve was inaugurated in 1979 and comprises a powerful landscape consisting of deciduous forests, juniper-covered land, ancient clearance cairns and stone walls. In the past the water level was much higher than today and you can see its traces, so-called high water markers, in the shape of a flower, carved into the mountain.
The birdlife is abundant, and the two birdwatching towers Hägnatornet and Gamla tornet (the Old Tower) are much frequented. The tower is reached by one of the two walking trails starting close to the car park. At the car park there is also an indoor and an outdoor exhibition about the birdlife of Lake Östen. Within the area there is one ancient relic, Odin’s grave. The former cattle shed has been converted into an information centre for Lake Östen. There is also a small café and collections belonging to the Folklore Association.
